Climbing is dangerous! Every year many climbers are broken, maimed, and killed. Don't be so foolish as to trust your life to what you see here. I'm not a guide and neither is this web site. If you don't know what you are doing or where you are going, please take a course or hire a guide! |

The EmmonsSeptember, 1999After a freaky reacquaintance with Sarah, she invited me to go with her team to Rainier. We climbed all the way to Emmons Flats the first day, then to the summit and out the next. Sarah's friend Matt was in the kind of shape I was in in 1996 and our summit day was the first and only time I've been bent over my axe trying to catch my breath. The weather was poor on our summit day, many parties turned around. Visibility at the top was about 50 feet. It was so windy that we could barely shout to each other near the summit. Our inability to communicate led to a misunderstanding 200 yards from the summit whereby I thought Matt wanted to turn around and he thought I wanted to turn around. We got it straightened out, tagged the summit, and got the hell out of there. Sarah and I have gone on to have several other fun adventures together. A full trip report to come... |
